PIAA Announces Girl's Spring Season Extended To 2012
Oct 17, 2009, 7:27 pm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Friday, October 9, 2009

GIRLS’ SPRING SOCCER SEASON EXTENDED TO 2012

At its meeting of Friday, October 9, 2009, the PIAA Board of Directors voted to
extend the girls’ spring soccer season through spring 2012. Previously, at its
Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24, 2009 Board of Directors’ meeting, the
Board had voted to eliminate the girls’ spring soccer season, effective the
beginning in the 2010-2011 school year.

Schools that currently play girls’ soccer during the PIAA-defined spring season
expressed concerns over the timeframe provided to transition from the 2010
spring soccer season to the 2010 fall soccer season. Specifically, those affected
member schools requested more time to budget for the change and address
facility usage, staffing, and scheduling issues. Conversely, those member schools
that currently play girls’ soccer in the fall were anticipating an increase in the
number of enrollment classifications in girls’ soccer from two to three.

After much discussion, the Board unanimously voted to permit the girls’ spring
soccer season to continue through and including the spring of 2012. However,
the number of enrollment classifications for girls’ spring soccer will be reduced
from two to one, effective the spring of 2011. That same motion provided for the
number of enrollment classifications for girls’ fall soccer to increase from two to
three, effective the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year.

“This action by the Board is a reasonable compromise for all member schools
sponsoring girls’ soccer. The Board was successful in accommodating the needs
of schools requesting a longer transition period away from the spring season
while cognizant of the need to provide for greater competitive balance through
expansion of classifications in the fall season,” said PIAA Executive Director Brad
Cashman.

BTFC Cantona Make Lititz Tournament Final
Aug 10, 2009, 5:58 pm

Lititz Tournament Banner

and had a stellar showing competing in four games over the course of the two day tournament.  The format of the tournament had BTFC placed in the White flight of the U’17 boy’s division with three other teams in a Round Robin format.  The group consisted of the following teams:  BTFC Cantona (PA-East), Middleburg. Inc - Midwest Mustangs (PA-East), Rage United Raging Rampage (PA-East),, STN Wolves (PA-West).

The arrangement of the group stage allowed the awarding of 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss.  The two top point scoring teams from the group would go through to contest in the flight final.

On Day 1, team Cantona matched up against Middleburg. Inc - Midwest Mustangs in an entertaining affair.  Team Cantona went behind early in the contest the result of miscommunication in the defensive 1/3rd and an opportunistic Mustang forward profited from the Thunder defensive indecisiveness.  Despite the set back, Thunder were able to claw back into the game and gradually began to fashion some promising opportunities.  However, the score remained at 1-0 heading into the half-time break.

In the second half, a very motivated Cantona team began to wear down an ever increasingly tired looking Mustang side who could not keep up with thunder’s superior conditioning.  Cantona had to be patient with their play as dividend for their superior play did not come through until the last minute of regulation.  The tying goal coming curtsey of a header by Andrew Green off a loose ball in the box, which the Mustang defense failed to initially clear off a corner kick.  Certainly a dramatic ending, but a hard fort and well deserved tie for team Cantona.
